How Alcohol Affects our Body

Your brain.
Alcohol, even in small amounts, causes irreparable damage to brain cells; some die and others are altered. (this really sounds scary. so i better let go of my that social drinking session that happens even once in a blue moon)

Your heart.
Alcohol incrases the risk of hypertension, stroke, and damage to the heart muscle.

Your lungs.
Alcohol dperesses respiratory functions.

Your reproductive system.
In men, alcohol can damage cells in the testes, causing impotence, sterility, and possibly enlarged breasts.  In women, alcohol can cause irregular menstrual cycles and malfunctioning of the ovaries.  Alcohol has been also linked to birth defects in infants and to fetal alcohol syndrome.

Your liver.
Because your liver must filter alcohol from the blood, alcohol affects it more than any other organ of your body:

  • Excess calories in alcohol are stored as fat int he liver.
  • Functioning liver cells die from alcoholic poisoning.
  • Scar tissue replaces dead cells, causing cirrhosis.

Your immune system.
Alcohol weakens the body’s defence against infection and breast cancer.

Mashed Potato {My way}

Mashed potato with carrots.

I used the following:

potatoes/carrots/mayonnaise/salt/pepper.

Procedure:

1. Boiled the potatoes. Skinned and mashed.

2. Peeled carrots and shred (the fine size)

3. Add 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise into the potatoes and mixed well.

4.  Then slowly add the shredded carrots and mixed until evenly blended.

5.  Add a dash of ground pepper and then salt to taste.

6.  Chill for an hour or two.

Optional: you can also add raisins

Chamomile Tea as Health Booster

Ive never tasted tea til I reached the land where tea drinking originated.  Then tea became a daily habit especially before eating dinner.  It was just a normal daily tea chinese drink everyday.

Now chamomile tea is shown to boost the immune system.  For centuries, people who have felt sick or stressed have tried drinking chamomile tea as a medicinal cure-all.  Now it is found out that it boosts our immune system and fights against infections associated with colds.  Not just cold but it was found out that it actually helps relieve a wide range of health ailments.

So next time i feel ill or have a cold, I should not forget chamomile tea.

Eating Raw for a Healthier Longer Life

I become a bit conscious of my weight today that’s why i browsed health mags on the net and I come across this article.  Although it’s been several months my mom kept telling me to lose weight, eat organic fruits and vegetables.  Now that her amapalaya has grown and it has served her at meals for several mealtimes now, It made me wonder about eating raw and checked the advantage and disadvantage of eating raw vegetables.

According to the article in Earth Talk that i’ve read earlier,  Proponents of raw foods, sometimes called “living foods,” believe that raw foods are much healthier for the body than cooked or processed foods. Followers of diets based wholly or largely on raw foods claim numerous health benefits, including increased energy levels, clearer skin, better digestion, weight loss and reduced risk of heart disease.   More of the article here.

Having read many health books (Health and Home) even the admonision of Ellen White,  I can agree wholly that eating raw can contribute to a healthy and longer life, I can agree that eating raw vegetables or fruits can contribute to a healthy and longer life.

Am inspired seeing mom eating her organic grown ampalay and she wants to share it with us — but i just can’t eat.  She said there’s no bitterness in it and I said, maybe that is not ampalaya.  She eats the ampalaya raw just like the rabbit eating a carrot.

I promise myself now, if given the time again and the finances, might try lacto-ovo vegetarianism.   Then maybe will try yoga, too. :D

I don’t mean to say that I don’t want to grow old.  I do want to but I wanna grow healthy.  At my age now, I think it is still not too late to change my lifestyle.

I hope to come across more articles about this.
