How to Care for Puncture Wounds

A puncture wound such as stepping on a nail – does not usually result in excessive bleeding.

Often, in fact, little blood will flow and the wound seems to close almost instantly.   But these features don’t mean that treatment is unnecessary.

A puncture wound can be dangerous because of the risk of infection.  The object that caused the wound may carry tetanus spores or other bacteria, especially if it has been exposed to soil.

If you have sustain a puncture wound, see a doctor to have the wound thoroughly cleaned.  As a precaution, you may need a tetanus shot.

Clean Up!

It is now the month of December and we need to clean up the house.  We clean everyday though but not like the general cleaning we are doing before the eve of Christmas day.  I have woke up to this household practice and have carried it where ever i go.  We also do it before New Year’s eve.  We just clean everything from up of the house to the bottom.  Lately, my mom discovered that we need moth traps as she saw many moth trailings in the gutter.  Of all places gutter?  What if we don’t find the moth traps at Citi Hardware?  But we will try.

What am gonna love with general cleaning is that i cleaned so seriously and could sweat a lot.  It just feels like running a marathon. :)   So the result would be — i lose some a pound and our house top to bottom is clean!

21 Healthy Drops

I just can’t believe that for 1 day (December 1) i got 21 drops.  Thanks you for those who made a drop that day.  It made me happy.  This blog is not yet a month on EC bt for now i have more than 300 EC points already. Yeheyyy am so happy.  For a slack dropper like me, am so happy for the increase. :)

I had the time to visit those 21 sites too this evening. :)

Affordable Insurance Rates

Last Friday afternoon, during the in-service meeting, an agent from one of the big Insurance companies in the Philippines had a part after the main speaker spoke.  She introduced to us schemes on how to avail a life insurance in this crisis time.  Many got interested but only a few promised to enroll.  I find time to check on the term life insurance rates because if it is not feasible then i will just apply for a medical insurance. Oh how i wish am in the states when medical insurance is a must. :)   I think medical insurance is also important especially for emergency sickness or hospitalization.

10 Beauty Tips {short cut}

Grabbed from Kerslyn.  Thank you, sis!

1) The Fastest Way to Dry Nail Polish

Dunk your hands in a bowl of ice-cold water.

“The cold water freeze-dries polish, sealing and hardening it quickly,” says Belinda Rivera, a nail specialist in Austin, Texas.

Allow nails to air-dry for two minutes, then submerge in ice-cold water for three minutes, which is enough time for the polish to harden completely.

Another option: Blast nails with cool air from a hair dryer in between coats. This helps each layer of color dry as you go.

Quick tip: Old nail polish can take forever to dry, since time can turn polish gooey and thick. Toss bottles when the polish begins to change color or separate. At that point, the lacquer has probably thickened and become unusable.

2) The Fastest Way to Minimize a Facial Flush

Place a cool, wet towel on the back of your neck.

“When your face flushes during exercise, it’s a normal physiological response to your body overheating,” says Lydia Evans, a dermatologist in Chappaqua, New York. “Your blood vessels dilate and increase blood flow to the surface of the skin to cool it, which gives it that red appearance.”

A cold towel on the back of the neck constricts those blood vessels, numbs the nerve endings there, and helps lower your body temperature quickly, says Debra Luftman, a cosmetic dermatologist in Beverly Hills.

Splashing cold water on your face will have the same effect.

Quick tip: Carry a spray bottle filled with cold water to the gym. When you feel your face getting warm, spritz it with water. This will help keep the redness to a minimum.

3) The Fastest Way to Depuff Eyes

“Wrap a bag of frozen vegetables in a thin towel and place it over your eyes for 10 minutes,” says Debra Luftman, a cosmetic dermatologist.

A night of sipping Champagne or eating salty foods can lead to fluid retention around the eyes. The cold of the bag stimulates circulation under the eyes, which helps bring down that fluid. (Why a bag of vegetables? Because it conforms to the contours of the face. Peas or corn works best.)

A soft washcloth soaked in cool chamomile tea will also do the trick, since chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties.

Quick tip: If you know you’ll be drinking alcohol or eating salty foods, be sure to drink lots of water. You’ll be less likely to puff out the next morning.

Quick tip: To help prevent puffy eyes, prop up your head on two pillows when you go to sleep. Gravity is your friend when it comes to fluid retention.

4) The Fastest Way to Soothe Post-Waxing Irritation

Apply a 1 percent hydrocortisone cream, which calms inflammation, quells itchiness, and reduces redness.

The force it takes to pull hairs out from the roots can inflame skin. Lydia Evans, a dermatologist, says, “Since coarse and thick hairs are more stubborn to remove, you’ll probably experience more redness in areas where they grow,” such as the bikini line and the underarms. Delicate spots, like the brows, are also prone to irritation. Apply a pea-size dab of hydrocortisone cream to red zones right after waxing.

Quick tip: Don’t schedule a waxing within three days of the start of your period, when skin tends to be extra sensitive.

5) The Fastest Way to Repair a Torn Nail

Patch it with a tea bag.

Nails can tear for many reasons: They’re weak; they’re soft; they’ve been soaking in water for too long, which softens them further.

Whatever the cause, cut a tiny piece of paper from a tea bag (it should be big enough to cover the entire tear), apply a bead of nail glue to the paper (Krazy Glue works in a pinch), then press it on top of the tear, says Essie Weingarten, founder of Essie Cosmetics.

Allow the glue to dry, then gently file the top of the paper so that it is smooth and flush with the nail. Finish with a layer of base coat, two coats of nail polish, and a topcoat.

Quick tip: Wear rubber gloves when washing dishes or using cleaning products. Water and chemicals can weaken nails and make them more likely to tear.

Fun of Soup

Not really.  But i do love especially in cold weather.  I took a quiz and here’s my result. :)

You Are Clam Chowder

You are cynical and a bit provincial. You don’t trust what’s new or trendy.

You are also indulgent and hedonistic. You like rich foods, and you would never count calories.

You are not a big cooker – or a big foodie. Food is not complicated for you.

You eat what’s comfortable. And what’s from a box or can. You’re very low maintenance.

And guess what, i have never tasted clam chowder coz i don’t eat clams. :)

Stress Reliever

For me, going on a travel is one sure to relieve stress.   Some may disagree but many of my friends too will agree with me.  I love going on on long trips even short trips.  One of my dream trips is country hopping in Europe.  I like to think that it will just be a backpacking type trip but even then i still need luggage of good kind to stand the long trip. I wish for a month long getaway to Europe. How about you? Is traveling one of the activities that perks you up?

Mood Swings = Bipolar Disorder

I can’t really say that I have a bipolar disorder. I dunno if I will go out and see a doctor I will be diagnosed as that. Many times I’ve read descriptions and symptoms of this disorder that I self can self diagnose myself, but I also know that it is only the doctor who can do that. I come across this reading in the Health and Home magazine and I’d like to share them with you:

Bipolar disorder is characterized by an alternating pattern of extreme emotional highs (manias) and lows (depression). These emotions may at times be more intense and may vary in duration. Bipolar disorder can range from mild to severe and it’s manic phase usually present for a week or more at a time and may include –

  • Feeling of euphoria, extreme optimism, and inflated self-esteem
  • Rapid speech, racing thoughts, aggravation, and increased activity
  • Poor judgment, recklessness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • A tendency to be distracted
  • Extreme irritability

Signs and symptoms of the depression phase may include:

  • Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, guilt, or hopelessness
  • Disturbances in sleep, appetite
  • Fatigue and loss of interest in your daily activities
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Recurring thoughts of death or suicide

Guava Leaves for a Bath

Since i was a child, we bath our wounds with boiled young guava leaves.  We take this as natural medication.  It hastens healing to wounds

Dimple started the regimen today.  Though she takes a bath since day 1 of her sickness, but yesterday her spots are getting blackish so we let her start taking boiled guava leaves.  Half of the water is cold and half of the water is the boiled broth.

Guava leaves have fresh sweet smell so she does not complain.

So next time you have open wounds, use guava leaves regimen as part of healing.  It works!
