WARNING on Sunlight

Small amount of sunlight are wonderful.  Large am0unts are dangerous! Limit your exposure to the sun to five minutes per day at first if you are fair skinned, 15 minutes a day for darker – skinned individuals.  Your exposure to the sun can be gradually increased.   A goal of 20-30 minutes is a realistic goal for most people.  Never allow yourself to burn.  Remember, wet skin burns faster than dry skin.  Ultraviolet rays of the sun can reflect off snow, sand and water, greatly increasing your exposure.

For years, sunlight has been known as a mediator of life.  We know today that it can be healing or destructive;  it can be the kiss of life or the kiss of death, depending on how we use it.  Enjoy the sun sparingly and it will increase your vitality and good health.

Shopping as Stress Reliever

I wonder which is worst shopping or eating during high peaks of stress.  I think shopping is better if you tons of cash and eating is great if one is abnormally skin and bones.  A friend indulge himself in beautifying his new baby – a sports car!  Of course he should take care of it as he does for his own life because sports car are no cheap.  He thought of upgrading his door into a vertical door like lambo doors because of its cool style.  He is really salivating of the thought that his yellow sports car will have a new door.

Birthday Bash

It’s my daughter’s birthday today but the little celebration will be tomorrow.  She invited some of her friends over.  I wish we can invite the whole gang (6th graders)but our house is too small.  So we having the party invitations made because we only invited a handful through word of the mouth.  My sister even commented that even without invitations, some people will just come.  But maybe when D turns 18 – we will for sure have one made.

Ideal Body Weight

Ideal body weight is commonly determined by the height-weight tables developed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.  According to Dr. Sturges, these are helpful but not really accurate.  They do not take into account the athlete who is overweight because of extra muscle, or the normal weight person who has too much fat in proportion to other body components.

So you can try this formula:

Women: 100 lbs. for the first 5 ft. in height plus 5 lbs/inch additional.
Men: 106 lbs. for the first 5 ft. in height plus 6 lbs/inch additional>
For small frame subtract 10% :
For large frame add 10%

There is also the Body Mass Index method of determining body weight. Here one takes the body weight in kilograms and divides it by the height in meters squared (kg/m2). In adults the normal range is 20-25.

The triceps skin fold measurement is another method for direct measurement of fat. It is simple, and quite accurate in persons under 30. Men are allowed up to 15 mm, and women up to 25 mm thickness.

Other methods, such as ultra sound and underwater weighing, are also available. A most significant determination of obesity is what the person himself thinks as he looks at himself in the mirror!
