How to Resist your Chocolate Cravings

Sweets are generally not unhealthy but eating excessive amounts could post as a health risk. Chocolates are known to be a popular comfort food, a quick bite could easily relax and relieve stress but what happens when you ten to overeat and go beyond the usual servings? This is where a problem could arise.

While it might be hard to entirely give up on chocolates you could at least try to find means on how you can curb your cravings. Too bad there are no patches or gum that you can take in order to stop your chocolate cravings. It will take a lot of effort and will power in order to do it.

Use it as a reward for yourself whenever you accomplish something. Fight the urge to grab a bite before working on a task rather set a goal and tell yourself that you’ll have a bite once you’re done with your work.

It is important not to deprive yourself from chocolates especially during the first days of your attempt. Do not cut back completely but rather eat in moderation. The fallback on going cold turkey is that you can crave for more and you’ll end up eating a bigger portion. Lastly, go for healthier chocolate alternatives such as sugar free products. Dark chocolates are also a better choice because of its antioxidant properties.

DARE to Lose Weight!

DARE is an acronym for Dietary Approach to Reduce Excess weight. It is a planned diet consisting of a low fat, high fiber-complex carbohydrates with moderate protein adequate in vitamins and minerals for individuals who has excess body weight problem.

DARE is a program highly supervised by a dietician. One of my our dietician envisioned this one day and decided to pass a proposal to the hospital administration for approval of the 21 meals experimental.

The objective of the study are as follows:

  • Reduce the excess weight at least 2-3 pounds per week;
  • Promote healthy lviing
  • Prevent the occurence of lifestyle disease;
  • Appreciate the importance of plant-based diet;
  • To prepare healthy diet – low fat, high fiber complex carbohydrates with moderate protein adequate in vitamins and minerals.

There were 15 random participants and 90% of the group are at least Grade 1 in obesity.  The study was conducted from July 12 – 18, 2011 at the Nutrition and Dietetics department of the hospital.  We go there 3 times a day for meals around 7 in the morning, 12 at noon, and 6-7 in the evening.

After the 7 days, i felt so great.  I never felt so light ever since I had excess weight problem.  We were served fruits and vegetables meals.  During the last day of the experimentation, we were served rice but I did not touch the rice.  I picked other forms of carbs like wheat bread, banana and the like.  Just no rice.   I am given 42 weeks to work out to let me gain back my desired body weight.  I plan to continue eating at the Dietary with pay and it is not cheap. So my plan to buy a life insurance policy, that will be set aside for now. I just recommend some of my friends to check out this insurance if they decide to buy one then they have to get it from my friend. I am just helping my friend who is a life insurance agent.

Here’s a glimpse of some our food during the 7-days trial —-

Good News for Heavy Smokers

I have attended many STOP SMOKING drives because of a handful of friends who are smokers and wanted to stop.  Some are successful and some are not.  Those who can’t were having a hell of time coping the withdrawal so they slid back and go back to that deadly habit.  But now, I have good news for these die-hard smokers but are still my friends.  I am sure they gonna love the idea of electronic cigarettes.  According to reviews, it is healthier version for those who can’t kick the smoking habit.

According to reviews, this e-cigarette have no annoying smell for people around to inhale.  The killer second smoke?  E-cigarette does not have that one. Costs cheaper too because once consumed, u don’t need to buy a new packet. In stead you can just attached it to the usb that goes along with it and charged it.

Am sure my smoker friends will love this and maybe i’d often hang out with them then.

Reservatrol for a Healthy Heart

Do you ever wonder why people say “Red wine is good for the heart.”  I can wonder because most people i know who drinks wine, they get drunk and too much wine drinking helps them develop terminal illness in later life.  Good think i was able to read this article by Dr. Miriam Estrada entitled Reservatrol for Heart Health printed in the Health and Home magazine September – October 2010 issue.

Let me just share with you the portion that really caught my attention as this is a learning moment for me:

The protective effect of red wine is not due to its alcohol content, but rather to the presence of a simple non-alcoholic constituent now knows as RESERVATROL.  Reservatrol acts as an anti-oxidant, antimutagent, anti-inflammatory agent, protecting the body against cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Red wine is produced from red or black grapes.  Because grape juice is white, the grapes are fermented with the skins.  The soaking process not only gives wine the red color, it also allows the wine to absorb the reservatrol.  Because of this, red wine contains more reservatrol the white wine, which is fermented after the grape skins have been removed.

In spite of reservatrol, the author or the article still did not promote wine drinking because this good is just only a speck of the whole effect of wine to a person.  According to WHO, Although regular low to moderate consumption of alcohol is protective against coronary heart disease, OTHER CARDIOVASCULAR and health risks associated with alcoho do not favor a general recommendation for its use.”

So, it’s better to eat fresh grape fruits to have a Reservatrol treat. :)

Changes that will keep some pounds off

1.  Stop drinking calories.

Saying bye to soda, fruit juices, energy drinks, and etc.

2.  Eat more protein

But not more that you can’t burn.

3.  Eat more fiber

I love this!  Slice up carrots and cucumber and have them as your finger foods while watching movies or TV instead of the cheese-loaded popcorn or pizza.

4.  Lead not yourself into temptation.

My guess on this is not to stock food that is very tempting right in your locker. :D   Or podluck yourself at night and give the key to other members of the house so that you can’t reach the refrigerator to eat a pint of ice cream.

5.  Add 2,000 steps a day.

And how many is that when you multiply that number into 365 days?  Hmmm no wonder then that you can permanently lose that couple of pounds in a year.

6.  Cut your screen time.

Lessen TV and Computer time.  I doubt if i can do that. :D   Whatever.
