DARE to Lose Weight!

DARE is an acronym for Dietary Approach to Reduce Excess weight. It is a planned diet consisting of a low fat, high fiber-complex carbohydrates with moderate protein adequate in vitamins and minerals for individuals who has excess body weight problem.

DARE is a program highly supervised by a dietician. One of my our dietician envisioned this one day and decided to pass a proposal to the hospital administration for approval of the 21 meals experimental.

The objective of the study are as follows:

  • Reduce the excess weight at least 2-3 pounds per week;
  • Promote healthy lviing
  • Prevent the occurence of lifestyle disease;
  • Appreciate the importance of plant-based diet;
  • To prepare healthy diet – low fat, high fiber complex carbohydrates with moderate protein adequate in vitamins and minerals.

There were 15 random participants and 90% of the group are at least Grade 1 in obesity.  The study was conducted from July 12 – 18, 2011 at the Nutrition and Dietetics department of the hospital.  We go there 3 times a day for meals around 7 in the morning, 12 at noon, and 6-7 in the evening.

After the 7 days, i felt so great.  I never felt so light ever since I had excess weight problem.  We were served fruits and vegetables meals.  During the last day of the experimentation, we were served rice but I did not touch the rice.  I picked other forms of carbs like wheat bread, banana and the like.  Just no rice.   I am given 42 weeks to work out to let me gain back my desired body weight.  I plan to continue eating at the Dietary with pay and it is not cheap. So my plan to buy a life insurance policy, that will be set aside for now. I just recommend some of my friends to check out this insurance if they decide to buy one then they have to get it from my friend. I am just helping my friend who is a life insurance agent.

Here’s a glimpse of some our food during the 7-days trial —-

Latest with a Chopsticks

Last night I had a moment with a pair of chopsticks.  I was thinking on what to have for dinner.  I was already hungry and the quickest thing to bite is to make some pancit canton.  Some of the packets were already swarmed with ants so i cooked them them all – 4 packets.  I was drooling while imagining that i would have a lot of pancit canton.  Good thing Ma’am JD had some so i was not able to devour them all.

I started having mouthfuls of pancit canton using the chopsticks. I ate it the chinese way.  I placed the noodles in a flat dish so at the end of the meal I was already having a hard time eating the last small amount so i used spoon.  I smiled to myself because i started with chopsticks and ended with a spoon.

It made me recall that while in China, i don’t like having bowls as meal or dinner plates.  When i invite people (friends and students) i like them to have a taste of how we serve food my way so i use plates.  We use bowls for soup.  Then they explained to me that chopsticks is hard to use when using a flat plate because they have a hard time picking the last morcel.  Now i can understand as i have experienced it last night.

Over in China, i own more than 3 dozen pairs of chopstics and at least a dozen chinese bowls for meals.

Some said that chopsticks is a way for someone to eat very little that is why it can induce slimness. =)  This did not happen to me. hehehe

Netbook for Her

My daughter’s birthday is coming up. If my finances will just let me then i thought of getting a netbook for her as a gift. I read in yahoo news today the top netbook picks for a student. For a student! So for sure student life does not need those complicated specs and features for the time being. The important thing is that they can use their netbooks for researchable homeworks where ever they are or whenever they are on the go. One thing i also want to check if it has a extended laptop warranty because the product will be purchased from the states and then it will be used in the Philippines. So i think one year warranty would just be too short. An extended warranty would be an a great purchase option. Right?

I did not make any promise to my girl but hopefully in the soon future, she will also get her own laptop.

A netbook or a better cell phone? Hmmm deep thinking…I hope any of this will motivate her to study harder. =)

Beating the Changeable Climate

How?  By keeping yourself healthy.  By having regular exercise, eating the right food, taking enough rest, drinking lots of water and protect yourself from unnecessary exposure to the sun and to the rain or afternoon showers.

Many of my friends are sick this past days and two of my office mates called in sick today – one in the morning and one this afternoon.  I even thought that maybe i should call in sick too so that i can have a long sleep to let the body ache go away.  But then i decided not to because i want this month to be a great month for me – no absences, no tardinesses at work, and no sickness as this is my birthday month.  Though i may not be so blessed financially at least i will be blest with good health – minus even the minor aches. :)

Get well soon (ay not soon as in now na jud) to the following: Uncle Jerry, Ma’am Gaid, Ma’am Ruby, and Sir Morente!

Aside from the changeable weather, these people too are stressed out at work – so my advice is work accordingly.  When it’s time to go home – go home, do exercise, or take time to smell the roses.

I love this quote i saw this morning:

Your job won’t take care of you when you sick.
Your friends and family will.
Stay in touch.

Colorectal Cancer

Getting a news that someone close to you is having a cancer is devastating.  You feel sad for the person who is sick and as much as possible you would like to exhaust all your means trying to save up the person from the terminal ailment.    Lately, we heard that someone (distant relative) got cancer and it’s of the colon.  I then checked out what is colon cancer and i got this very precise but straight to the point answer – Colon cancer is a common type of malignancy (cancer) in which there is uncontrolled growth of the cells that line the inside of the colon or rectum. Colon cancer is also called colorectal cancer. The colon, also known as the large intestine, is the last part of the digestive tract. The rectum is the very end of the large intestine that opens at the anus.  So in order to avoid this kind of cancer the person should undergo colon cleansing so they have to use any of the best colon cleanser available in the market or what is being recommended by their doctor.

My friends and i were planning to do a colon cleansing one day but not with pills.  We plan to do weekend fasting and then whole week of JUST FRUITS.  :)   We will see what would be the result
