Stress in the Classroom
As we are approaching the end of the semester, I realized that the students are getting more pressured while complying their academic requirements. I can sensed it even in my own classroom. A class of 14 yet i can see in their faces that they are not that prepared to take chapter tests or any small quizzes to measure if they have understood what they have taken up.
So last week, Monday, i gave them a group work to be performed on Wednesday. I told them they will have two grades – a group grade and an individual grade as I can see which one is really active in making their skit or illustration very clear to everyone. We all had a great time. I told them to describe and portray the ebusiness communication gadgets or the machines that makes an office be called an “electronic office” and Conference calls was among the acts they played. The group assigned in teleconferencing protrayed, video conferencing, audio conferencing, and the computer conferencing. They did not just portrayed but their props are just so great. They made dummy TV’s, dummy computers, dummy keyboards, dymmy mouse and sound system.
When they had that activity, i sensed that they were more active compared to when i just discuss the lessons and they listened. One even mentioned last night if we are going to have group work again. I told them…we will see. =)
Am just excited for the sem to be over. Now i know one way to break stress in the classroom, let the students do a group work like role play. =)
